Goats Milk FAQs

Goats Milk FAQs

We answer the questions you ask most frequently below. If you have a question that we haven’t covered, please get in touch and we’d love to help.

  • Why is Goats' Milk so white?

Why is Goats' Milk so white?

It's the carotene in cows' milk that makes it look creamy. Carotene also gives carrots their orange colour. But there's no carotene in goats' milk hence the pure white colour.

  • Can I use Goats' Milk in cooking?

Absolutely! You can use fresh and UHT goats' milks in exactly the same way as you would use fresh and UHT cows' milk. So, wake up your cereals with fresh, cold goats' milk and put a splash in your tea or coffee. It is also an ideal cooking ingredient in sauces and all your favourite recipes.

  • Since I switched to Goats' Milk I feel a lot better inmyself, why is this?

Goats' milk is non-mucous forming which is why you'll probably experience fewer congestion and sinus problems leaving you clear-headed and a lot less 'bunged up'.

  • Which starter cultures are used in Delamere Dairy’s Goats' Milk yogurt?

Streptoccocus salivarius ssp. thermophilus, Lactobacillus johnsonii and Bifidobacterium longum are used in our individual pots of yogurt. Streptococcus Thermophilus and L. Casei are used in our 4-pack yogurts.

  • Can I freeze your Goats' Milk products?

Fresh goats' milk freezes very well, ideally you should freeze it on the day of purchase. Store at -18°C for up to two months. Thaw in the fridge or at room temperature taking care to put the milk in the fridge as soon as it is thawed then use within two days.

Our UHT goats' milk is a long life product and should not be frozen. It can both be kept, unopened, for six months, so generally doesn't need to be kept for longer.

The butter, hard cheese, tapas style cheeses and log range can also be frozen. Once thawed, refrigerate and use within a week.

The yogurt and spreadable goats' cheese, do not freeze well.

  • Why is there such a lengthy 'Use by' date on your fresh Goats' Milk?

You may have spotted that our fresh goats' milk has a longer shelf life than many other fresh milks. That's because we use the very best equipment to fill our cartons in the most hygienic and controlled conditions - a sterile air environment that gives us a natural, top quality milk, with no additives or preservatives.

  • Can a baby drink Goats' Milk?

Goats' milk can be introduced into a baby's diet just like cows' milk, but we always recommend you seek the advice of a health professional.

  • Is your packaging recyclable?

We outline the recycling details of each of our products on their respective pages, simply choose which product’s recycling information you are interested in on our products page and hey presto!
