My daughter, Georgia, was 11 months old when she developed a terrible cough. She would cough and be sick 24-7. She couldn't keep down her feeds. I consulted the Health Visitor and the doctor and they said there was nothing I could do other than to wait until she got over the cough.
She continued with the cough for months and during this time she was unable to put on weight - as obviously she was bringing back most of her feeds when she was sick. I repeatedly asked for help but was told that the cough would eventually pass.
I went to a Homoeopath myself and decided to ask her for advice on helping Georgia get over her cough. Straight away she said that it sounded as though Georgia had a problem digesting cows milk in the formula. She said that many children had this problem but it wasn't widely know. She suggested that I get some Goats Milk Formula for Georgia, which I did.
Unfortunately Georgia wouldn't drink the formula so I was back to square one. I decided at this time that as Georgia was over 12 months I would try her with Goats milk. As this was nearly 7 years ago you can appreciate that goats milk was not nearly as easy to come by as it is now.
Georgia's cough gradually cleared up as her body stopped producing the mucus that had been making her sick. She made good progress and soon put on weight.
We scoured the supermarkets and eventually found one a few miles away that supplied it. We also managed to get some goats cheese and yogurt too which certainly helped over the next few months in weaning Georgia as she grew stronger.
I am pleased to say that Georgia's cough gradually cleared up as her body stopped producing the mucus that had been making her sick. She made good progress and soon put on weight.
The Health Visitor wasn't very impressed at first when she heard that I'd made this decision without proper advice from a dietician and suggested there would be an iron deficiency. I looked into this at the time and was advised that this was incredibly small and the benefit to changing to goats far out weighed this. Eventually when the Health Visitor saw the change in Georgia and her quick progress afterwards she conceded that the change had been a great success.
Georgia is now a healthy 8 year old and still loves her drink of goats milk each morning and before she goes to bed - preferably ice cold!
